Mamadou’s Childhood and Family
Mamadou Ndiaye was born in Dakar, Senegal, on September 14, 1993, to M’bad and Seynabou Ndiaye. Adam, his elder sibling, was also born to his parents. Mamadou’s love of sports was evident from his childhood in Senegal, however, he favored soccer over basketball.
However, after a growth spurt in his youth, he grew to be rather tall and began playing basketball more frequently. He moved to the United States in 2010 after UC Irvine Anteaters assistant coach Amadou Koundol noticed him while playing with young boys in Dakar and offered him a contract.
He then enrolled at Stoneridge Prep School in Simi Valley, California, where he played games and prepared to learn English because he only spoke French at the time. Ndiaye then attended Brethren Christian High School, where he played varsity basketball under head coach Jon Bahnsen.
He did, however, miss multiple games due to a pituitary gland tumor, which he subsequently recovered from following surgery. He stayed with a couple in Huntington Beach, California, while attending Brethren High School, and they also supported him with his medical care. Mamadou began his studies at the University of California, Irvine in 2013.
