Manu Tuilagi was born in Fogapoa, Samoa, on May 18, 1991. He is the younger brother of Samoan national team players Alesana, Freddie, Henry, Alesana, and Sanele Vavae Tuilagi of Leicester.
Julie, his other sister, is fa’afafine. Manusamoa was called after the Samoan national team, Manu Samoa, because his brother Freddie was chosen to represent Samoa in the World Cup in 1991, the year Manu was born.
He moved to the UK to live with his siblings, and he started playing youth rugby with Rumney RFC in 2004 while living in Cardiff and seeing his brother Freddie play for the Cardiff Blues.
He returned to Leicester at the age of fifteen and enrolled in the Leicester Tigers’ academy.
