It’s an honor, said Margot Robbie, “to have established a base so solid that Harley [Quinn] can now be one of those roles that other actors get to try out for.”
The intriguing casting news of Lady Gaga opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux had beckoned in August. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the Oscar-winning singer-actress is expected to play Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel.

Margot Robbie expressed her pure joy when asked if she finds it strange, interesting, or cool to witness someone else, a genius like Lady Gaga, has a new take on Harley Quinn, a character she loves so much.
The Barbie star shared comparisons between Harley Quinn and Macbeth, Batman, and Queen Elizabeth I “It makes me incredibly pleased because I’ve always said that what I want Harley Quinn to be is one of those characters who, like Macbeth or Batman, is always played by a fantastic actor.
And someone gets to perform their Macbeth or their Batman. And I think there aren’t as many female characters in them. Beyond Queen Elizabeth I, though, I was allowed to try my hand at other topics, which I was honored to do. Wow, Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I, I thought. I now get to.”
For the uninitiated, Queen Elizabeth I was depicted by Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth and by Margot Robbie in Mary Queen of Scots. In addition to winning a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for her outstanding performance, Blanchett was nominated for an Oscar and a SAG award. However, Robbie received BAFTA and SAG nominations for her scene-stealing performance.

Margot Robbie also expressed her unvarnished opinion about Lady Gaga’s attempt to play Harley Quinn, a role she mastered in films like Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Suicide Squad(s): “It’s an honor to have established a foundation that makes Harley one of those characters that other actors can try out for a while. And I believe that Gaga will do something amazing with it.”
Harley Quinn is undoubtedly in good hands thanks to one amazing actress after another!
