Lost Daughters, a new Netflix crime film, is based on the true story of Mari Gilbert, a mother whose daughter Shannan Gilbert went missing on Long Island on May 1, 2010. Authorities discovered the 24-year-old sex worker’s corpse in a marsh near Oak Beach on December 13, 2011, according to Oxygen.
Mari has three more daughters in addition to Shannan: Sherre Gilbert, Stevie Gilbert, and Sarra Gilbert. The Long Island Serial Killer is considered to be responsible for a greater number of unsolved female sex worker fatalities, but the true story is considerably more horrible. Mari’s hunt for answers about her daughter’s death, which may be related to those acts, is the central theme of the film.

Let’s look at the Mari Gilbert Murder Case. Sarra murdered her mother on July 23, 2016, by stabbing her 227 times and assaulting her with a fire extinguisher, according to the Daily Freeman.
According to the Gilberts’ lawyer, John Ray, “Sarra asked her mother over to her apartment because she was hearing voices” about what happened to Mari. This data was obtained via a survey. You may be able to find the same content in a different format or with additional data on their website.
Sarra began behaving recklessly before murdering Mari. Sarra was arrested in Ulster County in February 2016 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and animal cruelty, according to PIX11.
She threatened to murder her 8-year-old child before drowning a dog in front of him, according to a source who talked to the local TV station. Sarra was arrested again in May 2016 for criminal contempt. According to the same report, she had violated a “order of protection” issued by her lover. Sarra apparently struggled with mental health issues before to the murder.
Mari Gilbert’s Family Tree
Mari Gilbert was an American activist and defender of murder victims. Gilbert campaigned for Shannan, a 24-year-old New Jersey native who went missing in May 2010. During the course of the inquiry into Shannan’s kidnapping, the remains of ten murder victims were discovered scattered around New York’s Ocean Parkway. Detectives decided that Shannan died as a result of an unintentional drowning unconnected to the Long Island serial killer’s victims.
Gilbert, however, questioned the outcome and fought to have the case reopened as a murder inquiry. Gilbert’s family demanded an independent autopsy, which found that Shannan died from strangulation.
Gilbert appeared on many television programs to address the situation with her other daughters, Sarra and Sherre. Sarra, her 27-year-old daughter, fatally stabbed her mother, Gilbert, on July 23, 2016, in Ellenville, New York, at Sarra’s Warren Street apartment complex. Her daughter had schizophrenia, according to one account, and “heard voices in her head urging her to carry out the act.”
Sarra was sentenced to 25 years in jail in August 2017 after being found guilty of second-degree murder and fourth-degree murderer’s possession of a weapon. She is being held in the Bedford Hills Correctional Institution for Women.
