Before killing Mari, Sarra began to behave recklessly. Sarra was arrested in Ulster County in February 2016, according to PIX11, and accused of animal abuse and endangering the welfare of children.
Sarra was arrested again in May 2016 on charges of criminal contempt. The same source told PIX11 that she had violated an “order of protection” that her boyfriend had secured for her.

During the course of Shannan’s kidnapping inquiry, ten murder victims’ bodies were discovered scattered around the Ocean Parkway in New York.
Investigators came to the conclusion that Shannan’s accidental drowning death had nothing to do with the Long Island serial killer’s murders.
Gilbert, however, disapproved of the outcome and pushed for the case to be reopened as a murder inquiry.
According to the findings of an independent autopsy that Gilbert’s family sought, Shannan may have been strangled to death.
Gilbert and her two daughters, Sarra and Sherre, discussed the matter on TV programs on a regular basis.
On July 23, 2016, in Ellenville, New York, Sarra, her 27-year-old daughter, fatally stabbed her mother, Gilbert, inside Sarra’s Warren Street apartment complex.
According to one account, her daughter had schizophrenia and “heard voices in her head urging her to carry out the act.”
