They were employed as janitors in a Boston nightclub. Due to their hectic schedules, Maria and her brother Peter occasionally had to go help their parents.
During the holidays, Maria and Peter would frequently visit the club to assist their parents. “On Christmas, I recall leaving for the nightclub at five in the morning so we could quickly clean and get home to change.”

On Mother’s Day in 2019, Maria revealed some progressive news on her mother’s cancer struggle. On the picture, she wrote,
Greetings on Mother’s Day to my lovely mother! A brief update: her brain tumor, if that’s what’s left—it may just be scar tissue—is stable, and she still receives amazing MRIs. It took a lot of work to get here, but I’m incredibly thankful that God granted my family and I another Mother’s Day to honor her! We are grateful to everyone who has prayed for her throughout this time. It is effective! This summer marks the third anniversary of my glioblastoma diagnosis.
Meningioma Brain Tumor was the diagnosis made for Maria Menounos.
Maria saw a decline in her own health while caring for her mother. A golf-sized tumor pushing on her trigeminal nerve was seen on her 2017 MRI. The nerve regulates certain facial muscles and is in charge of giving the face feeling.
Menounos endured a nearly seven-hour operation on June 8, 2017, her 39th birthday. Her health deteriorated despite the successful surgery, though. It was in the middle of August of that same year that she began to struggle with the residual side effects. For some time following the original procedure, she frequently had dizziness and double vision.
One year later, Maria spoke with TODAY about her recuperation.
I feel content. Little things exist, but nothing significant. The outlook is excellent. According to my physician, there is a mere 6% possibility of this recurring. We do well.
