Maria began her career while working at the government television network PTV4. In 1987, she co-founded Probe, an independent production business. Maria Ressa continued to work for CNN’s bureau chief in Manila as a co-founder of the organization until 1995. She later managed CNN’s Jakarta desk from 1995 to 2000. She was assigned as an investigative reporter in Asia, where she specialized in tracking down terrorist networks.

Maria was hired as the chief of ABC-news CBN’s section in 2004, while also working for CNN and writing for The Wall Street Journal. Ressa eventually opted to quit the organization without renewing her contract in 2010. Apart from this, she has tried numerous jobs such as teaching, author, and entrepreneurship as well.
