Martin Short, an actor, has stated that he approached the part as a heterosexual man, despite the fact that there has been much debate regarding Franck’s sexual orientation.
In the movie Father of the Bride, Martin Short’s character Franck divided the audience into two groups: one group insisted that Frank was gay, while the other group insisted that he wasn’t. However, Short’s appearance in Father of the Bride as “the homosexual wedding planner” garnered a lot of attention.

In an interview with Pride Source, the humorous actor clarified his part in the movie. He insisted that it was never his intention to depict Franck as gay. He claimed that Frank, in particular, caught his attention since he enjoyed playing characters who exhibited peculiar, exaggerated, and unusual behavior that the audience would find humorous.
Frank happened to meet those demands. Short stressed that it was more complicated than most people believed to distinguish between homosexuals and straight people. It’s not always simple to identify a gay, he continued. Many of the effeminate people I’ve encountered are startlingly straight. next, the complete opposite.
The actor added that he frequently ran into people similar to Franck in the real world. Such people are more likely to have eight children and a wife, nevertheless, and to be happily married.
Franck was a difficult character for the filmmakers to include in the movie, according to the website. The role was mostly an improvised flowery persona that had to be seamlessly integrated into a lovely and sincere movie.
Martin Short: Is he gay?
Despite Short’s words, some individuals categorize him as LGBT or speculate that he is gay because he played a prominent role in a popular movie. Contrary to popular belief, Short is not gay, and he formerly married a woman by the name of Nancy Dolman. Sadly, she passed away in 2010.
According to a People magazine article at the time, Dolman passed away at the age of 58. Dolman was receiving medical care for a natural condition prior to her passing, said LA County Coroner Chief Craig Harvey.
He continued by saying that the coroner will not be involved in the case. He withheld the nature of the illness that Short’s late wife had, though. The website obtained a report from 2007 that said Dolman was battling cancer, but they choose not to cite their sources.
Short later acknowledged to Larry King that his wife’s passing was not a shock and that she fought the illness for three years before losing the battle.
Martin Short’s spouse stayed at his side
Short deemed his union with Dolman successful in a 2019 AARP cover story. Short asserted that she and he were in frequent contact even nine years after her passing.
He acknowledges that he frequently considered how she would react to a decision before making one, especially when it came to their three children, Katherine, Oliver, and Henry.
Also openly contested by Short was the idea that the dead shouldn’t be mentioned and that life ends with death. Instead, he believed that such ideas originated from a point of denial, where people hesitated to accept the fact that they were mortal.
Because his wife was always by his side, the pain of losing her gave him strength. He claimed that he had grown more daring since she left.
