Marty Makary married Kirsten Powers in Fairbanks, Alaska on January 7, 2010. They invited many of their close friends and relatives to their wedding ceremony. Unfortunately, they did not continue their romance and divorced in 2013 after three years.
The former couple has no children from their relationship. In 2002, his ex-wife Kirsten dated former Congressman Anthony Weiner. Their love did not continue long, but they remained close friends. On November 16, 2016, his ex-wife announced her engagement to journalist Robert Draper.

Marty Makary’s Professional Career
Marty Makary began his career after graduating from Georgetown University, where he completed a surgical residency. Later, in Washington, D.C., he worked as a writer for the Advisory Board Company. Makary also received sub-specialty surgery training in surgical oncology and gastrointestinal surgery at Johns Hopkins under surgeon John Cameron. He then became a partner in Cameron’s faculty practice.
Makary’s first novel, Mama Maggie, a personal story about his aunt, earned him a Nobel Peace Prize while he was working in Caira’s rubbish slums. Furthermore, in 2018, he published The Price We Pay, a book about how business leaders may reduce their health-care expenditures and the grass-roots campaign to return a medicine to its noble objective. His other books include Unaccountable, General Surgery Review, and others.
