Professor Mary Louise’s demise was announced by her husband, Richard Flook, who stated that she passed away peacefully at the Wolper Hospital in Woollahra on Saturday night.
Brain tumor-related complications were the leading cause of Mary Louise Mclaws’s mortality. Mary announced on her Twitter account on 15 January 2022 that she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required medical leave from UNSW and WHO.
After that, the epidemiologist was treated at Wolper Hospital by nurses and physicians who provided excellent care.
Mary’s illness had rendered her frail and debilitated, but she was battling the complexities and conducting research on health services and epidemic prevention.
She was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia in the general division in July 2022 for her distinguished contributions to medical research. Moreover, her work is in the fields of epidemiology and infection prevention.
Mary Louise Mclaws was undergoing treatment then, but she remained involved in community services and prevention welfare.
This year 2023, however, was not favorable for Mary Mclaws; since the beginning of the year, her condition deteriorated and she was kept under close observation.
On August 12, 2023, her battle with the brain tumor and Cancer came to an end, claiming her life.
