In November, a number of severe controversies involving Matante surfaced, and numerous individuals came forward to share their experiences.
Montreal drag diva Denim Pussy was the first to speak out, describing her relationship with Matante Alex from November 2019 to December 2020.
Denim accused Alex on Twitter and Instagram of exhibiting transphobic behavior towards her and one of her trans companions during their time living together.
Additionally, she claimed that Matante Alex’s actual name, Alexandre Gemme, subjected her to physical violence.
Soon after, Kiara, a second drag queen who dated Alexandre Gemme from May to December 2018, shared her accusations against Matante Alex.
In her post, Kiara accused Matante Alex of psychological harassment, manipulation, and abuse during their relationship in 2020.
Kiara revealed how the alleged abuse affected her mental health and expressed regret for not intervening when she witnessed Denim’s physical assault.
What Allegations Does Matante Alex Make?
Matante is a French Canadian transgender performer who was a contestant in the premiere season of Queen of the Universe.
Matante Alex was accused of transphobic behavior, physical violence, manipulation, exploitation, and psychological harassment.
Following these revelations, non-binary ARTSY artist Daphnée Schryve accused Gemme of being a transphobic offender and bigot on Instagram.
Matante Alex was disqualified from the program Queens of the Universe by Daphnée Schryve.
In response, Gemme filed a defamation lawsuit against three people, including Denim Pussy and Kiara.
After an unsuccessful attempt to mediate a meeting between Denim Pussy and Kiara, Alex refutes all accusations and files libel litigation.
Tuesday, the Superior Court denied his request for a provisional interlocutory injunction, according to Maryse Lapointe, an attorney for the defendants.
Alexandre Gemme is seeking $60,000 in moral, material, and punitive damages, plus $20,000 in legal and extrajudicial costs.
Following these allegations, at least two additional individuals shared their experiences of abuse with Matante Alex via transient Instagram posts.
The accusations quickly spread throughout the LGBTQ+ community, particularly the drag scene, sparking discussions and raising concerns about Matante’s conduct.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Matante continues to pursue her career. She is currently appearing on the December 2 international broadcast of the vocal competition series Queen of the Universe.
Alex’s participation in the performance and her overall reputation as a drag performer have been cast in doubt by the allegations and legal proceedings.
