Sources who talked with NBC News on behalf of the actor and law enforcement said that Perry drowned to death in his Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, home. The cause of death remains undisclosed.

Friends viewers may recall that in one episode, Perry’s character Chandler Bing had a strange mishap that caused him to lose his big toe.
During a flashback to their past relationship, “The One with All the Thanksgivings,” Monica attempts to flirt with him and unintentionally cuts his shoe with a kitchen knife.
Monica intends to get vengeance on Chandler in the episode since he made fun of her weight the previous year, even though she has no intention of chopping off his toe.
Chandler is taken to the hospital right away, but he loses his “pinky” because Monica inadvertently places a carrot on ice rather than the tip of his toe.
Chandler is shocked to discover the real reason why he lost half of his toe when Monica puts a turkey on her head and dances about the flat.
Addiction to Matthew Perry
Perry became addicted to Vicodin after a jet-ski accident in 1997 and completed a 28-day recovery program. He was overweight for the following three years, falling below 145 pounds due to pancreatitis.
He entered treatment in February 2001 because of his addiction to Vicodin, methadone, alcohol, and amphetamines.
As Perry was shooting Serving Sara in Texas, he was taken to Daniel Freeman Hospital in Marina del Rey because of severe stomach problems.
He said that due to his drug issues, he was unable to remember the three years he acted on Friends between seasons three and six.
Perry, a well-known National Association of Drug Court Professionals spokesperson, petitioned the US Congress in 2011 to fund drug courts.
He received a Champion of Recovery award from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in May 2013 for opening Perry House, a recovery center, at his former Malibu, California estate. He relocated it in 2015.
