Matthew Rendell died as a result of a heart attack. Matthew played in both the Australian Football League and the South Australian National Football League.
While participating in 79 games for West Torrens Football Club as a ruckman in 1977, Rendell made his SANFL debut.
He departed South Australia in 1981 to represent the Fitzroy Football Club in the VFL whilst sporting the No. 9 guernsey.
In his debut season, he predominantly played full forward and scored 45 goals, although he subsequently said he did not enjoy it.
Rendell would take up the ruck position until 1987, barring any injuries, until Ron Alexander returned to Western Australia.
Rendell, however, experienced a number of illnesses after 1983, which prevented him from participating in all but 26 of the games in 1984 and 1985. His admirers are crushed by his passing.
