On March 14, 2022, Salvatore Ferragamo announced a change in the position of creative director, which is now held by Maximilian Davis. On March 16, 2022, Maximilian will succeed Paul Andrew as the company’s creative director.
Paul Andrew departed the company to work on his brand. Shortly after debuting his Fall Winter 2022 collection at London Fashion Week under the direction of Fashion East, the young British designer will assume the role of creative director. In January 2022, Salvatore Ferragamo also appointed Marco Gobetti as its new CEO to oversee the Italian fashion house.
More details about Maximilian Davis
Maximilian Davis attended the London College of Fashion after growing up in Manchester. From a culturally hybrid perspective, he produces with crisp elegance and vibrant hues while drawing inspiration from his Trinidian-Jamaican ancestry.
He started his own company in 2020, and it immediately became well-known internationally, drawing A-listers like Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian.
Maximilian Davis started the label in his Seven Sisters bedroom after learning to sew from his grandmother. Before starting his label, Davis collaborated with Grace Wales Bonner, Asai, Mowalola, and Supriya Lele.
At London Fashion Week, Maximilian Davis’ debut collection with Fashion East included sharply tailored pieces, lovely small skirts, Nappa cropped jackets and lavish suede trench coats. For Davis and the Florentine label, Salvatore Ferragamo’s entry marks the beginning of a new era. The company’s newly appointed CEO, Marco Gobbetti, responded to Maximilian Davis’ debut on the label by saying,
I’m delighted to formally welcome Maximilian to the Ferragamo House. He is one of the greatest geniuses of all time because of his crystal-clear vision, level of execution, and amazing aesthetic. His work stands out for its refined sensuality, elegance, and unrelenting focus on quality.
Through the lens of his contemporary perspective, he will write a new, exciting chapter for this house built on a heritage of innovation, craftsmanship, refinement, and remarkable human values.
The fashion company Ferragamo has taken a positive move by hiring a young, innovative black person. In a news release from the Ferragamo firm, Davis acknowledged his appreciation for the role and added,
“I am incredibly excited to be working with Ferragamo and grateful for the opportunity to add to the house’s great and rich legacy.” I find Ferragamo’s dedication to timeless elegance and beauty to be quite inspiring. I’m eager to promote my concept because it upholds the standards of Italian ingenuity, craftsmanship, and quality.
As one of the semifinalists for this year’s LVHM prize, the British-Trinidadian designer has just established a reputation for himself. Twenty designers were up for the LVMH award for young designers, and he was one of them. Before the Paris show had begun, he decided not to enter the contest.
