Zuerlein was born on December 27, 1987 in Lincoln, Nebraska. During his junior year, the 2006 Lincoln Pius X graduate set a Nebraska state record for most field goals in a season. He attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha on a football scholarship and completed his education at Missouri Western. The St. Louis Rams selected Zuerlein 171st overall in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
In 2017, Zuerlein enjoyed his best season with the Rams, earning first-team All-Pro accolades and a trip to the Pro Bowl. He was the NFL scoring leader with 158 points and 11.3 points per game. Zuerlein also signed with the New York Jets in 2022 after a two-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys.

Zuerlein didn’t realize he could kick well until his sophomore year. In actuality, he planned to quit after his freshman year to focus on soccer.

Megan Zuerlein (née Kreifels), the NFL placekicker’s high school sweetheart, has been his wife since 2013. Megan Kreifels was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1989 to Terry and Barbara Kreifels. After graduating from Pius X High School, he went on to play goalkeeper for the Hastings College girls’ soccer team.
Her noteworthy achievement came after she was named Lincoln Journal Star Athlete of the Year in 2011. She also holds a registered nursing degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Megan has five children: two daughters, Emma and Morgan, and three sons, Greg Jr., Samuel, and Nicholas. Emma, their first child, was born in 2014, following their wedding on April 27, 2013. Morgan was born on June 14, 2015, as the couple’s second child. Their children, Greg Jr., Samuel, and Nicholas, were born in August 2016, November 2018, and August 2020, respectively.
