Jim Heintz entered the army at 18 in 1968, during the Vietnam War. He secured a road-building team in Vietnam after serving in Germany. He met Thanh Thach, an 18-year-old “house girl,” and got physically acquainted with her during a weekend when the army veteran let her remain on the base. Heintz returned to the US in 1971 without knowing the girl was pregnant. He never returned to Vietnam due to trauma.
Thom always remembered Thanh and featured her in his scrapbooks. Linh, Jim’s daughter, surprised his first wife, second wife Jeri, and their mixed family. Mikal, the veteran’s youngest daughter, was located in 2017 through genealogy/DNA testing.
Jim and Jeri worked hard to get their new family member to the US when her paternity was verified. They assisted the new family member, her husband Ky, and their daughter Nhu move to Yakima, Washington. They adore family gatherings as a mixed family.

Heintz was born in southern Vietnam in 1972. Early on, she faced uncertainty and suffering. According to her grandma, she was adopted after being abandoned on the streets. She suffered many hardships and discrimination as a half-American child due to her Amerasian characteristics. Her problems worsened after the Vietnam War ended in 1975.
Linh was bullied and assaulted at school due to her mixed ethnicity. Discrimination and societal stigma forced her to quit school. These tough conditions prevented her from completely embracing her individuality and finding a feeling of belonging.

Linh’s life improved when she fell in love with her neighbor Ky. They married and opened a coffee business together. Despite finding contentment, she craved meeting her biological parents and understanding her roots. Her grandma disclosed the truth of her adoption in the 2010s, driving her to seek further answers.
In 2017, she discovered her father, Jim Heintz, through her half-sister Mikal. Jeri, Jim’s second wife, and her father became her loving mother via this new bond. Linh increased her family with two half-sisters and two step-sisters. After reconnecting with their long-lost relatives, Heintz, Ky, and their daughter Nhu immigrated to the US for a year with DNA testing and consulates.
They moved in with Jim and Jeri in Yakima, Washington. The family now enjoys spending time together, appreciating her and her siblings’ ties. In pursuit of a fulfilled life, Heintz has completely embraced English and finished an ELA program.
