Reed Sheppard began his basketball career at North Laurel High School in London, Kentucky, and quickly established himself as the key shooting guard. His remarkable performance resulted in incredible successes, like leading the state of Kentucky in scoring during his sophomore year and being named Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.

Sheppard excelled in his final year, gaining the title of Kentucky Mr. Basketball. His exceptional abilities and accomplishments have earned him recognition as a top 50 star in the 2023 class. Sheppard agreed to play NCAA basketball for Kentucky in November 2021, rejecting offers from other top institutions such as Louisville and Virginia.

Reed Sheppard was born on June 24, 2004, in London, Kentucky, to parents Jeff and Stacey Sheppard. He was raised in a basketball-loving environment and was introduced to the game at a young age. He had the advantage of receiving instruction from both of his parents, who were former basketball players.

Reed Sheppard’s Father Is a Former Basketball Player

Reed Sheppard’s father, Jeffrey Kyle Sheppard, is a former professional collegiate basketball player who won Georgia’s Player of the Year award in 1993 while attending McIntosh High School in Peachtree City. He played for the University of Kentucky and was voted Most Outstanding Player at the 1998 NCAA Tournament in San Antonio.

He was also a member of Kentucky’s national championship teams in 1996 and 1998, under Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith, respectively. Despite his success in college basketball, Sheppard’s professional career was less successful.

He spent a brief stint in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Atlanta Hawks during the 1998-99 season, and while he participated in preseason games for the Toronto Raptors in 2000, he did not appear in any regular season games. Sheppard announced his retirement from basketball, citing the effects of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Jeff And Stacey Were College Lovers

Reed Sheppard’s parents were college sweethearts who attended the same school and shared a passion for basketball. Reed’s mother, Stacey, played basketball at the University of Kentucky. They married and had two children: Reed and Madison. They now live in London, Kentucky, and actively participate in a number of community activities.

Madison, Reed’s sister, is an outstanding athlete who attended North Laurel High School and made big contributions to the basketball team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in Biology and currently works as a Post Acute Business Development Representative for Trella Health.
