Minor was a collegiate basketball All-American at the University of Oklahoma. During his time at Oklahoma, he twice led the Big Eight Conference in scoring per game. Minor later played for the Oklahoma City Cavalry and the Philadelphia 76ers of the Continental Basketball Association.
In 1992, Minor was chosen to the ABCA/Rawlings High School All-American Baseball Third Team. He also played baseball in college. Minor was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in 1996, and he has subsequently played for the Rochester Red Wings, Newark Bears, Atlantic City Surf, and Lancaster Barnstormers. After retiring from baseball, Minor spent a long time as a baseball coach and manager for various organizations.

In late October 2022, Ryan Minor was diagnosed with colon cancer. Colon cancer is a malignant tumour in the cells that line the colon, which is a part of the large intestine. Furthermore, in November 2023, he underwent hospice care and died of the disease on December 22, 2023, at the age of 49.
His twin brother, Damon Reed Minor, a former San Francisco Giants and Oklahoma baseball player, confirmed the story on Twitter/X. He went on to say, “After a heroic and hard-fought struggle, I’m heartbroken to announce Ryan passed away this afternoon from cancer.”
