Born into A Racing Family
The Moffitt family has a lengthy racing heritage that extends back to Lee Petty, Thad’s great-grandfather. In addition to being a key figure in the sport’s inception, Lee Petty became the first driver to win the Cup three times. Lee Petty’s son Richard continued the family legacy as a second-generation racing hero.
Because of his exceptional performance on the track, he even earned the coveted title of “the King.” Richard’s remarkable victory solidified his status as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. Richard Petty’s son Kyle, who represents the third generation of the Petty racing family, rose to prominence on the racing circuit by carrying on his father’s legacy.
