Ming-Na Wen was born on Coloane, one of Macau’s two major islands, to Lin Chan Wen, her mother, and an unidentified father.
In the middle of the 1960s, her mother left Suzhou, China, for Macau, where she later wed her father. According to reports, the father of the stunning celebrity is Malaysian Chinese.
When Ming-Na Wen was only a child, her parents divorced.
The mother and older brother of the “Pretty Smart” actress traveled to Hong Kong after the divorce. Lin Chen Wen, the mother of Ming-Na Wen, trained as a nurse and brought up two kids.

Soon after, Lin Chen Wen fell in love again and wed Soo Lim Yee, a Chinese-American businessman, a second time. The Wen family then relocated to Harlem in New York together with Mr. Yee.
Leong, the younger brother of the actress, was born there. The mother and stepfather of Ming-Na Wen moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The family started the eatery Chinatown Inn. When she was a teen, the Mulan actress volunteered at the eatery. The restaurant is now run by Leong Yee and Jonathan Wen.

In May 1990, Ming-Na Wen wed Kirk Aanes, a writer for American motion pictures. After three years of marriage, the former couple divorced.
The accomplished entertainer soon met actor Eric Michael Zee. On June 16, 1995, Wen and Michael Zee became husband and wife. The enamored couple has been enjoying their relationship ever since.
