Megan Thee Stallion Reports That After Shooting, She Fell Into Depression

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion has described how, after being shot in the feet by fellow hip-hop artist Tory Lanez, she “started falling into depression.”

A jury found the 30-year-old Canadian, actual name Daystar Peterson, guilty of the 2020 shooting in December.

Megan Thee Stallion felt humiliated when her account of the incident was called into doubt on social media and her trauma was treated as a running joke.

The Grammy-winning artist described the guilty verdict as “more than vindication.”

She added,

“It was a victory for every woman who has been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them.”

The 28-year-old woman testified that she was shot on July 12, 2020, after exiting a pool party in the Hollywood Hills.

She told the jury that Lanez, who has been nominated for a Grammy, told her to “dance” before opening fire, following a dispute over his musical talent.

The musician, whose actual name is Megan Pete, described “conspiracy theories” and “false narratives” that circulated on social media prior to the trial in an article for Elle.

“Even some of my peers in the music industry piled on with memes, jokes, and sneak disses, and completely ignored the fact that I could have lost my life,” she said.

Instead of condemning all forms of violence against women, these individuals attempted to justify the actions of my assailant.

People believed she had recovered because she was still performing and posting on social media, but she said she felt “completely exhausted.”

“The truth is that I started falling into a depression,” she said. “I didn’t feel like making music. I was in such a pitiful state that I had no idea what to rap about.

“I pondered if anyone cared any longer. There were moments when I was literally crying my eyes out backstage or in my hotel, and I had to pull Megan Pete together and be Megan Thee Stallion.”

She stated that she was confident that Lanez would be found culpable and that “the truth and undeniable facts would prevail.”
