Mekbul Timmer passed away on March 6, 2022. Mekbul’s adopted mother, Mattie Timmer, took to Twitter the day after his passing to express her gratitude to people who reached out to her family.

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, at 2 p.m., a memorial ceremony was held at Deacon Don Sobolewski. It was held at the Portland High School Auditorium, located at 1100 Ionia Road in Portland, Michigan 48875.

Mekbul’s parents, Jeff and Mattie; his sisters, Maggie, Grace, and Mary; and his brother, Joe, were among those who survived. His grandparents, Jerry, Madeline, and Allan, were among his other relations. Brian and Beth Nagle, David Kotwicki, Dr. Stacey Beltz, Jennifer, Derek Archey, and Andrew Kotwicki are his aunts and uncles. Mekbul’s cousins Noah, Ellis, Jim, Abby, Dan, Carolyn, and Matthew are also survivors.

Maggie, Mekbul’s sister, tattooed Ray and Evangeline on her biceps a month after his death to keep her late brother with her for the remainder of her life. The Amharic term for brother was also added in the ink work.

Mekbul was an Ethiopian orphan.

Mekbul Timmer’s full name is Mekbul Jeffrey Seid Timmer, and he died on March 6, 2022.

Mekbul was born in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. Zeyneba Tesfaye was his biological mother’s name. She died in 2009, unfortunately. Meanwhile, it remains uncertain who Mekbul’s biological father is. After Tesfaye died, Mekbul moved in with his grandmother, Alemitu Kono, who was supposedly a teacher. She, on the other hand, would die in 2012. Amarech Abate, a neighbor and friend, then took Mekbul under his wing. He would later move to live in an AHOPE for Children home.

Soon later, the Timmer family from Michigan entered the picture and finally adopted Mekbul. According to his obituary, he was very excited about being a member of a family and that his integration was effortless.

Mekbul was adopted and became a brother to Maggie, Grace, and Mary. He also has a sibling named Joe.

Mekbul was a senior at Portland High School and a varsity soccer player at the time of his death. He was an outgoing, smiling, and mischievous youngster from a young age, according to obituaries and family members. Timmer was also a witty and cheeky trickster.

He was also a straight-A student who excelled in math and English. The late adolescent was apparently competitive and had an innate desire to be the best in class.

Jeff Timmer, Mekbul’s adoptive father, works as a senior adviser for The Lincoln Project, a political action committee. It was founded in late 2019 by a group of former Republicans.

Jeff is a former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party as well as a writer, pundit, and redistricting specialist. He is now, however, self-sufficient.

The Timmer patriarch also hosts a podcast on Apple’s platform called A Republic, If You Can Keep It.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mekbul’s father, Jeff, attended Michigan State University from 1985 to 1989.
