Melissa Joan Hart has stated that she assisted students in fleeing the Nashville school massacre. In an emotional Instagram video, Hart said that her children attend school close to The Covenant School, where a gunman opened fire on Monday.
The Sabrina the Teenage Witch actress stated that she and her husband assisted a kindergarten class in escaping and rejoining their families.
In the shooting, three children and three adults were slain.
The youngsters were ninth-grade students at a private Christian school. The adults were all members of the staff.
Hart stated that she and her husband were in the vicinity on their way to conferences at their children’s school on Monday morning when the shooting occurred.
As students at The Covenant School began to evacuate, they then assisted with family reunification efforts.
“We helped a kindergarten class cross a busy highway as they climbed out of the woods to escape the active shooter situation at their school,” Hart added, visibly distressed.
“Thus, we assisted these young children in crossing the street and escorted their teachers across, as well as reuniting a mother with her children.”
Melissa Joan Hart stated that this is the second time in her town that a mass shooting had occurred.
Her children attended a school near Sandy Hook, where a gunman killed 20 children in 2012 when she had resided in Connecticut.
“This is our second encounter with a school shooting in close proximity to our children,” she stated.
Later in the video, she said,
“I just don’t know what to say anymore.” Simply pray for the families; enough is enough.
The shooter in Nashville has been identified by authorities as former student Audrey Hale, 28 years old.
Hale was legally armed with at least two assault-style weapons and a handgun, according to the officers. Police killed the suspect immediately after the shooting began.
