Has Meryl Streep Been Diagnosed With An Obstetric Fistula In 2023?

Meryl Streep is healthy and free of any illnesses. The Hollywood celebrity also never had an obstetric fistula. The artist, who was born in New Jersey, narrated a film, as was already indicated. The historical documentary focused on women with obstetric fistula in Sierra Leone and Malawi.

Even though Meryl voiced the film several years ago, people are still curious about what inspired Hollywood’s A-lister to support the awareness drive. Some individuals seem to have assumed that the actress likewise had the disorder. But it is untrue. There is no obstetric fistula in Streep.

Obstetric fistulas are openings that develop between the bladder and the vagina (vesicovaginal fistulas) or between the rectum and the vagina (rectovaginal fistulas), according to News24. Long-term obstructed labor leads to the problem because the mother is not given the required care or attention.

The multiple Oscar winner discussed it in an interview. Streep described the movie as “powerful,” adding that it proves Ann Gloag’s ability to spark change. The star claims that it demonstrates the ability of Gloag to mobilize a large number of medical professionals, nurses, caretakers, friends, and family members to restore the health and status of fistula sufferers and to give them their lives back.

When questioned by Health24 whether there were any such initiatives in other African countries, Streep said. The actress remarked, “I am unable to comment more specifically about other projects in Africa, but I am pleased that I was able to highlight Gloag’s accomplishments and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.”

“I constantly am amazed by the tenacity of underserved individuals and the commitment of medical professionals like yourself on their behalf,” Meryl praised the continued efforts of African healthcare providers.

The Freedom From Fistula Foundation and Ann Gloag collaborated in the film’s production. The charity aids women by providing free maternity care to avoid fistulas and guarantee safe delivery as well as training to regional medical staff.

At the time, the filmmakers stated that over 500K women die each year from pregnancy-related causes in Africa, where there are an estimated two million women who have an obstetric fistula. However, 80% of these fatalities are completely preventable.

An obstetric fistula may be prevented, according to the UN Population Fund, by delaying the age of the first pregnancy, using family planning to space out deliveries, and giving pregnant women emergency obstetric care.
