Barratt was chosen as a NASA astronaut in 2000, and since then, he has gone on two space missions.
He worked as a mission specialist aboard Space Shuttle Discovery’s STS-133 in 2009. Later, in 2009 and 2010, he worked as a flight engineer on Expedition 19 and spent six months on board the ISS.
Barratt has worked as an astronaut as well as the Lead for Medical Operations on the ISS and as the NASA Deputy Chief of the Medical Operations Branch.

Dr. Michelle Lynne Barratt and Michael Barratt have five children together and reside in League City, Texas. Since 1991, Michelle has worked at UTHealth.
In the Division of Community & General Pediatrics and the Division of Adolescent Medicine, she has the title of Professor of Pediatrics.
She manages the Continuity Clinic experience as the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Residency program.
In each block, Michelle also instructs MSI students in subjects including communication and teen patient care. She was chosen to co-direct The Healer’s Art elective in 2015.
She is now working with first-year medical students to examine the contributions they have made to medical education and how they will use it in their future jobs.
