Michelle Muscatello, a meteorologist, has decided to leave 12 News after more than 18 years of service. To spend more time with her family, she decided to leave her current position and start a new profession in the private sector. Muscatello expressed her gratitude in a Facebook post for the chance to be a part of people’s daily morning routines and fulfill a childhood goal.

Although she enjoyed reporting weather events, she said that the most rewarding aspect of her job was being able to make a difference in the community. Michelle also apologized to Block Island residents for failing to disclose her pregnant belly during her weather forecasts for several months.

Muscatello has been involved in a variety of things other than covering news events and working early mornings since joining WPRI in 2004. She has delivered school speeches, mentored interns, and worked with numerous organizations such as Make-A-Wish MA/RI and MADD.

She also gave her time to Special Olympics, Project Undercover, the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association. Michelle stated that her children had grown up swiftly, with one of them starting high school the following year. Muscatello didn’t want to miss out on any more special moments with her family or be too exhausted to participate in their amusing chats and other evening activities.

Michelle Muscatello’s next job is uncertain; nevertheless, the reporter claims she will enter the private sector in the spring. Muscatello’s yearly compensation was estimated to be between $45,000 and $110,500. WPRI issued a statement praising Muscatello for her work and announcing her resignation.

According to the announcement, Muscatello has been a vital component of the Pinpoint Weather team for the past eighteen years. Michelle played an important role in reporting extreme weather events such as blizzards, tornadoes, and hurricanes.  WPRI News Director Karen Rezendes stressed Muscatello’s dedication to keeping viewers safe during such occurrences.

The statement also emphasized Muscatello’s importance to the team and how her absence will be deeply felt. WPRI General Manager Patrick Wholey stated in the news announcement that they had been anticipating her departure for some time and were well prepared for the transition.

He also stated that the station will release more information closer to Muscatello’s departure date, which is set for late spring. Michelle was a regular on two WPRI news programs that aired weekly: Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon.
