Ammy Alcock, her mother, gave birth to her in Sydney. Although she was raised with her two brothers, her father’s name is not mentioned. Alcock said during an interview that she came from a very non-artistic family and that she clung to art as a source of independence and something she could call her own because she believed it was something that was specifically hers.

She sat outside to accept the phone call because she couldn’t tell anyone she was auditioning for the role. When her agent informed her that she had been cast, she freaked out in the backyard before running inside to ask a friend if he had any wine. She subsequently started drinking. Her language learning experience in Valyrian
For House of the Dragon, Alcock had to learn the Valyrian language from various dialect teachers. In a podcast, she discussed her experience learning Valyrian. She compared learning Valyrian to learning a new song in a foreign language. They would have the scene phonetically and with an audio recording after she had memorized it in English and had it printed out on a sheet.
Then she would say it. She didn’t have to think about what she was saying because it was in her muscle memory. She acknowledged that almost all of her speech was automatic. She also gained horseback riding skills. She would practice riding a horse for hours in preparation for the role. She admitted that she puts a lot of pressure on herself because she knows she is the only one to blame if it doesn’t succeed.
