After a protracted battle with ovarian cancer, she passed away. Her husband and bandmate, Alan Sparhawk, broke the awful news. The band also paid tribute to her on Instagram, writing:
“Friends, it’s hard to put the world into words and a brief note, but she passed away last night, surrounded by love from her family and yours, among others,” Keep her name sacred and close to your heart. Share this moment with a person who requires your help. Love is unquestionably the most important thing. – Alan”
From 1993 until 2020, Low was a trio that had four different bassists. Since the beginning of the group, Mimi has been a member.
On Saturday, Mimi Parker passed away from ovarian cancer. In 2020, the illness was initially identified in her. When people are diagnosed with such conditions, she even brought it up earlier this year on the Sheroes Radio show, adding that they often question why it had to be them.
She went on to say that since the questions came to her at random, she had never asked herself the same ones:
What should we do with the little amount of time we have? “We want to make each day matter,”
To give Parker time to receive treatment, the band postponed a handful of their August 2022 European shows. Last month, the band officially canceled their whole European tour. The band said on social media that prolonged travel is now impractical due to current discoveries and changes in therapy. They continued:
The concerts we have scheduled for the fall, including the Water is Life festival in Duluth on September 4, are all contingent on how she responds to new medicines. We apologize for any trouble that ticket rescheduling and/or travel costs/changes may have caused. We appreciate your good wishes and prayers as we hope and pray for every one of you. Peace, I’m very grateful. – Low.”
Drummer, singer, and songwriter for the band Low was Mimi Parker
Mimi Parker was raised in a musical family after being born in Minnesota. The mother of Mimi used to perform country music. She claimed that since she and her sister used to sing the lead, it was her responsibility to create harmonies in an interview with Terry Gross for Fresh Air in 2005.
Mimi claimed that she had always been able to listen and compose harmonies. She used to play the drums in the marching band at her high school.
Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker met in the fourth grade and started dating in junior high. Soon after the pair were hitched, Alan co-founded Low with bassist John Nichols. In a 2016 interview with NPR, Parker said:
Sincerely, we wouldn’t have survived as a band this long if it weren’t for the marriage and the family.
I Could Live in Hope, Low’s debut album, was released in 1994. Since then, the band has released albums like Long Division, I Could Live in Hope, Secret Name, Kranky, Trust, and others.
