Mohammad Mehdi Karami, an Iranian Kurd, was executed in the Islamic Republic of Iran when he was 21 or 22 years old for taking part in the Mahsa Amini protests.
He was convicted guilty of Fisad-e-filers, or “corruption on Earth,” for allegedly taking part in the murder of a Basij militiaman during protests in Karaj celebrating the 40-day anniversary of Hadis Najafi’s dying.
Karami maintained his innocence despite accusations from human rights groups that the Iranian authorities used “shoddy evidence” to condemn him.
Thousands of protesters have been imprisoned as a result of the Mahsa Amini rallies, and hundreds have been charged with crimes such as Moharebeh (“waging war against God” or “corruption on Earth”), which are punishable by death in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Before Karami and Hosseini, Mohsen Shekari and Majidreza Rahnavard were assassinated by Iranian authorities. They were found guilty of the same crimes as Moharebeh due to other alleged charges connected to the Mahsa Amini demonstrations.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami was hung on January 7, 2023, according to the state-affiliated Fars News Agency.
Four anti-regime protesters from the Mahsa Amini demonstrations have now been put to death as a result of these executions.
While Karami awaited his death, inmates reportedly beat him and threatened to rape him.
In a video posted on social media a few weeks before Karami was executed, his parents urged the Iranian government not to put their son to death.
Karami’s parents also said that when he was being kept hostage, Iranian officials abused him.
Karami’s parents said that he was in “high spirits” despite being abused in jail, but that the ordeal had left him “physically wounded.”
The day before Karami was executed, Mehdi Beik, the political editor of Etemad, was taken into custody by Iranian authorities.
One of the fathers of the convicted Iranian protesters was in conversation with Beik.
Mohammad Hossein Aghasi, a lawyer representing Karami, said on Twitter that Karami was not allowed one last chance to communicate with his family before being executed.
Aghasi claims that three days before his death, Karami began a dry food fast in retaliation for the Iranian government’s refusal to allow Aghasi to represent him.

Iranian Police detained 13 adult males, including Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, as well as three juvenile boys in connection with the murder of Ajamian.
The accusations made against Karami and Hosseini in Setayeshi’s report were not supported by any evidence.
Karami said that while being detained, security guards struck him “so hard he lost consciousness,” leading detention officials to assume Karami had passed away.
Additionally, he said that he had “serious physical and emotional abuse by government agents.”
They then “threw his body near a courthouse,” but “they discovered he was still alive” before they departed.
Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and his lawyer also claimed that the government tortured him to force a confession.
Hosseini’s lawyer claimed that since his confession was acquired “under torture,” it was not legal.
Hosseini gave his confession while “full of tears,” alleging that the torture consisted of the authorities stunning different parts of his body electrically and by other means.
Amnesty International made a similar claim, saying that Karami’s confession was also acquired via torture, and that officials used “shoddy evidence” and coerced confessions to condemn Karami and Hosseini.
