Despite her fondness for snow, she also enjoys visiting beaches in the summer and spending time with her family. She also enjoys skiing and going shopping. Monica Cryan- Professional Career
During her stay at the university, Cryan was active in a variety of weather-related events and organizations to help her develop her profession, including the Campus Weather Service, Weather World, and the Penn State Network, among others. After finishing her degree, she pursued her passion of becoming a meteorologist, landing her first position in 2010 with KMID-TV Big 2 News, an ABC affiliate that serves the Permian Basin area of Texas.
She worked there for seven months before moving on to KTAB/KRBC in Texas, where she worked as both a reporter and a meteorologist. This time, she worked for Nexstar Media Group, which also owns the CBS affiliate KTAB and the NBC affiliate KRBC, where she also worked. With a shared service agreement, the two are known to share studios. She worked for both stations for the following two years before leaving to work for WSFA 12 News in West Montgomery, Alabama.
Recent Attempts
Monica left WSFA 12 News after a year to join NBC Connecticut, or WVIT, an NBC-owned station serving the Hartford-New Haven television market. The station is well-known for its newscasts and another original programming. She left the station in 2015 to work for WeatherNation, which transmits both live and pre-recorded weather forecasts. They provide forecasts at the regional, local, and national levels, as well as weather-related news.
While working at WeatherNation, she chose to further her education by enrolling at American Military University to pursue a degree in Public Administration with a special emphasis on Emergency Management. She is also a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Cryan stayed at WeatherNation for another year after finishing her master’s degree in 2017 before deciding to go to PHL17, which serves the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley area.
