When did Monica Turner and Tyson first meet? Their Hidden Love Story in the Prison
The pair initially met at a party hosted by famed actor and comedian Eddie Murphy at his New Jersey mansion in 1990. Monica enrolled in a Georgetown University program designed to bring minorities into medicine the same year.
According to sources, the two had a covert relationship until Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison in Indiana on March 26, 1992. In addition, the boxer was sentenced to four years probation for raping Desiree Washington, an 18-year-old beauty pageant competitor.
Meanwhile, Tyson’s best friend and adviser, Muhammad Siddeeq, told The Washington Post,
“The relationship developed long before the prison.”
Siddeeq also said that their bond grew stronger throughout this time.
“However, I believe it improved while in prison.” They corresponded to each other, talked on the phone, and she was always by his side.”
Turner travelled to Indianapolis practically every two weeks to see him until the boxing legend was released in March 1995 following a three-year sentence.
In the same interview, Tyson’s representative Charles Williams defined their friendship as “mutual admiration and respect.” She’s fallen in love with a man she admires and appreciates for his determination in overcoming personal challenges.”

In 2003, their divorce was finalized. Tyson allegedly paid his ex-wife approximately $10 million as part of their divorce settlement. Monica also received the duo’s luxurious residence in Farmington, as well as their then-$4 million Bethesda property.
Their Farmington duplex went on the market with an asking price of $4.75 million around the time of their divorce. There are 38 bathrooms, an indoor pool, a working lift, and a movie theater in the estate. In addition, it has a 3,500 square foot nightclub.
