Morgan Freeman Is Permanently Banned From Entering Russia

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman is among the 963 Americans whose entry into Russia has been permanently barred. The decision was made in response to US sanctions imposed during the Russia-Ukraine war, and those on the list include politicians, celebrities, and technology executives.

The Russian Foreign Ministry revised its list of Americans who are no longer allowed to enter Russia on May 21. On the list were former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Kamala Harris, CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg, and President Joe Biden.

One of the Americans whose travel to Russia was prohibited was Morgan Freeman. His inclusion in a video about the Russian government’s interference in the 2016 US presidential election is the cause of this. 2017 saw the release of the video, which Freeman both produced and narrated. Rob Reiner, who is also on the prohibited list, played the lead role.

In the past, Morgan Freeman has drawn criticism for speaking out and using his influence as a political and environmental crusader. He will donate $1 million to the University of Mississippi in 2021 along with Professor Linda Keena to start the Center for Evidence-Based Policing and Reform.

Because of his appearances in a wide range of cinema genres and his extraordinarily deep voice, Morgan Freeman is well-known. In addition, he has received a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

There are 230 people on the list, including Nancy Pelosi, Charles E. Schumer, and Kevin McCarthy, the leader of the House minority.

Additionally prohibited from voting were Senators Amy Klobuchar, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. There were also the names of the three deceased individuals—former senators John McCain, Harry M. Reid, and Orrin G. Hatch.

Additionally included were Microsoft President Brad Smith, George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, Susan Glasser of The New Yorker, Bret Stephens of the New York Times, and Bianna Golodryga of CNN. Donald Trump, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Barack Obama and George W. Bush, were not included on the list. The ban prompted the following statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry:
