Reputable fashion designer Nancy Gonzalez has been jailed on suspicion of smuggling crocodile handbags. In response to the claims, she might be sentenced to 25 years in prison or fined $500,000 Although selling a few crocodile skins is legal, it requires an expensive and time-consuming certificate.
Authorities believe Gonzalez smuggled additional handbags by paying passengers to transport them in their checked luggage. The designer advised them to explain that the bags were family gifts if anyone inquired.
Each handbag costs approximately $10,000. Upon boarding a flight to the United States, 12 people were carrying four purses, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. According to them, Gonzalez purchased the round-trip tickets for the flights.
