Nashville police identified the six victims of a private school shooting. On Monday, three staff members and three children were slain at Covenant School, a Christian preschool through sixth-grade school.
The victims were Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9, William Kinney, 9, Hallie Scruggs, 9, Cynthia Peak, 61, Mike Hill, 61, and Katherine Koonce, 60, according to Metro Nashville Police. William Kinney, 9, attended The Covenant School. The shooter was Nashville resident Audrey Elizabeth Hale, who officials described as transgender.
Hale attended the institution as a child and had no criminal record. Audrey used male pronouns and identified as trans, according to the Tennessean. According to a police official, the 2023 Covenant school shooter was born female but used masculine pronouns on LinkedIn.
Hale was a graphic artist and illustrator at Nossi College of Art and Design. A neighbor said she lived with her parents. Detectives found a manifesto and a comprehensive school map with probable entries at Hale’s residence.
Hale also reportedly researched the shoot before agreeing. Audrey pondered hitting another site but decided against it due to security, authorities said. She was shot by cops on sight.
