Nazira is currently married, however, she has not revealed the identity of her husband. She also has two children, a boy who works in finance and a daughter who works as a nurse. Nazira was targeted by the Taliban in 1994 for being upfront about her political beliefs on television, and as a result, she got death threats, harassment calls, and was forced to flee to Pakistan. She was held for three hours in 1996 after questioning Taliban authorities about their views on women working, and she was also forced to leave Pakistan.
Later, she went to the UNHCR to request refugee assistance, but she was denied. She was then kidnapped, and her husband was nearly bitten to death, before fleeing to the United States. Her family, however, was being hounded at home, and her mother was almost raped. Her brother’s feet were mutilated by gunfire, and her family was forced to flee. Finally, her entire family was granted asylum in the United States and is now residing in Virginia.

Nazira began her career as a journalist in 1990 when she began working as a reporter for Afghanistan National Television. The Taliban threatened her while she was working in Afghanistan because she openly criticized their organization, their methods, and the kind of brutality and tyranny they were producing. She had to travel to Pakistan for safety and began working for BBC Persian in 1994.
For four years, until 1988, Nazira worked as a journalist for BBC Persian in Pakistan on Radio 5 Live. She then became a correspondent for BBC News in 1998, where she stayed for a year before being forced to relocate to the United States. Nazira began working with Ariana Television Network as a reporter and journalist in 2005, and she has been reporting for them for the past 16 years. She also works as a freelance writer and journalist.
Nazira is currently making headlines after collapsing in the Pentagon building in the United States after witnessing the situation in Afghanistan. She became tearful as she recalled how her family had been tortured years before, and how civilians in her nation were now being tormented by the Taliban. She was furious at the removal of their flag, and their president, Ashraf Ghani, fled the country as soon as the United States withdrew its troops. Nazira has openly chastised the president for fleeing and failing to help the country. She also expressed her fury at the mistreatment of women and children, as well as the fact that no one was doing anything to regulate the situation.
