An engineer named Nikolai Steinberg was employed at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. He made an appearance in the first segment of Channel 5’s The Chornobyl Disaster in May 2022.
Steinberg said that during a regular exercise at Reactor One of the facilities, he saw steam emerging from a pipe outside his office. This was a huge nuclear leak.
But according to Nikolai, Chernobyl authorities never dealt with the issue and even attempted to cover up the tragedy. Hundreds of people perished on April 26, 1986, when Reactor Four at Chernobyl’s cooling system malfunctioned during a routine exercise.
Steinberg went on to clarify that at the time of the 1982 regular test, he was at his office. In the meanwhile, he saw that steam was coming from the ventilation pipe outside his office, which was attached to a Reactor One.
