An IPOB commander Nwagwu Chiwendu who is accused of planning Ahmed Gulak’s murder has been taken into custody by Nigerian security forces.
The deputy commander of the unlawful Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is accused of killing Ahmed Gulak, a political adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan, has been detained by the Nigerian military.
They were also accountable for their soldiers’ deaths last week at the same site and the burning of their Hilux, according to a military source reported by PRNigeria. He is currently with the Police, and they both took part in the assault on the INEC office in Owerri.
Reports claim that Chiwendu was the IPOB’s main guns instructor. Later, he rose to the rank of second in command under Temple, who is now in control of the state’s organization.

At Nwagwu Chiwendu father’s funeral on Tuesday, December 27, in Mbaise, Imo State, southeast Nigeria, Ipob commander Nwagwu Chiwendu was detained.
Mr. Chiwendu was to be the IPOB’s main firearms handling instructor. He later rose to the position of Temple’s deputy and is currently the group’s Leader in the state.
On January 21, Mr. Chiwendu, the suspect, is said to have left the Nigerian Army and joined IPOB’s militant Eastern Security Network (ESN). Because he was a member of OPHK, he has knowledge with operations.
He said that his group was responsible for both the kidnapping of the two foreigners on the Owerri-Okigwe Road and the murder of the two Police inspectors who were traveling with them. He also acknowledged to killing Gulak.
How did Ahmed Gulak fare?
Mr. Gulak, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, was shot and killed by gunmen on May 30, 2021, in Owerri, Imo State. The lawmaker was attacked as he traveled to Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri to catch a flight to Abuja.
Later, the state’s Police would attribute the death of the former political adviser to the IPOB and its militant branch, ESN.
A group by the name of IPOB is attempting to split some of South-South and South-East Nigeria into a separate Biafra state.
The suspect was presented to the media on Wednesday in Owerri, the Imo state capital. The suspect, according to the police, is an army deserter from Amaohuru in Nguru, Aboh-Mbaise LGA in Imo state.

The suspect claimed that the politician was killed because he defied the assailants’ demands. Ngwagu was recognized by the police as the person behind the politician’s murder during his march.
What acted IPOB?
Although IPOB has continuously denied being behind the attacks, the group has recently been accused of using violent attacks in the region to achieve its agenda.
Military sources told SaharaReporters that Chiwendu joined ESN after leaving the army in January 2021.
Michael Abattam, a spokesman for the Imo Police command, claimed that Nwagwu, also known as Onye-army, had been on the police’s wanted list. He acknowledged organizing high-profile killings, armed robberies, kidnappings, and other assaults.

He ascended to become the IPOB’s deputy commander in Imo State within a few months, according to rumors that he was the militant group’s main instructor in weapon handling.
