A Maine man was charged on Saturday with fatally shooting his 2-year-old niece, Octavia Huber Young. While engaged in a combative disagreement with his sister over a t-shirt, his parents forcibly removed him from the house.
He is charged with assaulting two men at his Wells home at 4:20 p.m. According to Detective Connor Walten of the Maine State Police, 19-year-old Andrew Huber Young returned to the house and began firing erratically, injuring Ethan Huber Young, his brother, and their father, Mark Evans Young, before killing 2-year-old Octavia Huber Young, who was in her father’s arms. According to reports, he took his father’s.22 caliber revolver and started shooting at his loved ones.
While Andrew’s brother sustained a left shoulder injury, his father was shot in the face. Authorities said they did not suffer any significant wounds. The gunshot entered Octaviav Huber Young’s chest through her left arm. After being taken to the hospital, Octavia underwent an autopsy. The young child succumbed to his wounds and died soon after.
“Huber Young acknowledged that he fired the rifle,” He claimed he was going to shoot at Ethan’s chest but not kill him. He claimed he had serious anger control problems and wished for Ethan to respect him.
David Bobrow, Andrew’s court-appointed attorney, has declined to comment on the incident but has issued a brief statement characterizing the gunshot as unintentional. He clarified,
The young man has been deeply disturbed by this tragic tragedy. He cannot describe his sentiments with words.
What led to the demise of Octavia Huber Young?
When Andrew noticed Ethan wearing one of his Carhart T-shirts in the early morning, the brothers’ arguments began. Andrew claims that the altercation intensified when Ethan changed into a second T-shirt that belonged to his brother.
Ethan Huber’s wife, Candace, grabbed Andrew’s phone, and the three of them, together with Octavia Huber Young, quickly departed the house. When they came back, they saw Andrew smashing Ethan’s belongings in his bedroom. Ethan destroyed Andrew’s hamster cage in return. Their father ordered Huber-Young to leave as the argument grew more intense.
He reportedly went directly to meet up with his lover. She told the police that Andrew was quiet the entire car ride and seemed to be having fun. Huber-Young and his brother were reportedly still fighting over texts as they watched a baseball game.
The girlfriend claimed that she had seen Andrew unlock his car trunk and “mess around” with a gray bag when they got back to Wells, but she had never seen him with a firearm. Later, Andrew Huber Young admitted to police that he had taken the loaded gun and put it in his trunk.
Octavia Huber Young: who was she?
Two-year-old Octavia Huber Young was allegedly killed by her uncle after a heated argument about a t-shirt. The loss of their child saddens Octavia’s mother, Samantha Higgins, and the rest of the family.
She loved to smile and play and was quite vivacious. She wanted to be like her older sibling. She always grabbed my finger and dragged me into her room to play with her when she required my attention. She cherished playing on her swing set outside.
To provide financial support for Octavia’s mother Higgins, a GoFundMe campaign has been started. As stated on the page,
“Such a loss would be extremely distressing, and we would like to see her have the financial support so she may be with family during this time,” the statement continued.
In the York County Jail, Andrew Huber Young is being held without bail for the murder of Octavia Huber Young. He is allegedly facing additional charges. It wasn’t apparent if he had filed a plea or retained counsel.
