Oliver Andrews From Bournemouth Given 10 Year Penalty In Morocco For Counterfeiting

Oliver Andrews

Bournemouth native Oliver Andrews and his travel companion were arrested in November while in Marrakech. A British tourist was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Morocco for dealing in counterfeit currency.

Five months after their arrest, on April 11 they were found guilty and given lengthy prison terms.

Mr. Andrews’s girlfriend Alanna Cornick called it the “worst possible outcome” and said they planned to appeal.

The 29-year-old and his travel companion hit a club on their final night (10 November 2022).

According to Mr. Andrews’ family, Moroccan police detained both individuals the following morning and informed him that half of his money was fake.

Last Monday in court, the judges dismissed additional allegations against the couple, including those of forming a criminal organization and producing counterfeit currency.

Ms. Cornick stated,

“I’ve been an absolute mess,” after the sentencing. I just can’t believe it, and I have no idea what to say about it.

The past 24 hours have been the most tumultuous of my life. Let’s simply keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Oliver Andrews claims he was unaware the money was fake.

The men have been given a new court date at which a different judge will hear their case.
