Peter Kay, a comedian, has announced his first live tour in 12 years as a sign of his return to stand-up. Since canceling his 2017 tour due to “unforeseen family difficulties,” the 49-year-old has generally avoided the spotlight.
When announcing his upcoming live performances, Kay said: “It feels fantastic to get back to stand-up comedy, which is what I do best.”
His return was revealed during an advertisement break in the ITV show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Boy George, DJ Chris Moyles, and rugby star Mike Tindall were all spotted entering the jungle on Sunday’s premiere episode, however, Matt Hancock, a former health secretary, won’t make an appearance until later in the run of the show.
Kay confirmed to fans in the area that he will return to stand-up comedy next month while being seen lugging a rolled-up carpet inside a home during the commercial break.
A new UK arena tour by the comedian will run from December 2023 to August 2023.

When The Tour That Doesn’t Tour was performing at the Manchester Arena for 20 nights in 2010, I worked there as a steward wearing a yellow blazer and asking people not to record the stage, as Peter Kay had done before.
Later, it did embark on a tour and made the second round of 20 performances.
His opening line about the people in the audience being his employers for the evening, along with his impersonation of individuals calling their boss and calling in sick for the day, would make fans laugh so hard they would cry.
Additionally, he would make jokes from his earlier days, such as, “Every time I go to an Italian restaurant, they give me free garlic bread… Plas-ma… plasma is my new catchphrase because of this. (because he desired a complimentary TV set).
Even though the act was virtually the same every show, I and those watching it for the first time both laughed aloud. His satire was universally relatable and perceptive.
He would inquire, “Have we got any teachers in?” A cheer would be heard. Wow, Woah, Woah, put your hands up, one rule for one, no shouting out.
But his encore cemented his status as a showman. He would sing the classics that both Freddie Mercury and the audience adored while putting a shovel to use as a makeshift instrument.
People would be on their feet demanding more after his nearly two-hour comedic performance before he became a rock star, and now they are finally getting it.
When I exchanged my yellow blazer for a BBC lanyard, I was not allowed to keep it, but since Peter Kay occasionally wore one to direct his audience to their seats, he might get one dry-cleaned, just in case.
The performances will be Kay’s first live tour since 2010 when he performed in front of more than 1.2 million people and broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour.
As a nod to the comic’s previous Mum Wants A Bungalow tour, the advertisement ended with fans asking Kay whether he had finally purchased his mother a bungalow. Kay acknowledged that he had and said that his mother now desired a new carpet for it.
The comedian, who was born in Bolton, said in a statement: “If ever there was a time when people needed a laugh, this is it. It’s fantastic to get back to what I love doing most, stand-up comedy.
“Ticket prices are starting at £35 – the same price they were on my previous tour in 2010,” the performer continued, “and with the cost of living at an all-time high.”
On December 2, Kay will kick off his tour at the Manchester AO Arena. Later on, he’ll be in Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield, Belfast, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Dublin.
At the Sheffield Utilita Arena, on August 11, his run will end. The tour locations indicated in the advertisement did not include London.
A ticket to one of Kay’s performances was referred to as the “perfect Christmas gift” on a poster for the occasion, which portrayed Kay holding a sign that read, “Better late than never.”
Kay has maintained a low profile lately. In August 2021, he made a notable comeback to the stage for two unique charity performances to support Laura Nuttall, a 20-year-old who was suffering from the severe brain cancer glioblastoma multiforme.
Additionally, he had a brief comeback in January 2021 when he spoke with Cat Deeley on BBC Radio 2 about his love of music, mixtapes, and the musical Mamma Mia. Cat Deeley was filling in for Graham Norton at the time.
In 2018, he also unexpectedly showed up at a charity screening of his television series Car Share.
