His death’s circumstances have raised questions about whether he was killed.

Along with his daughter, another unnamed woman, and his Brazilian wife Rosa Silva, he was on holiday in Indonesia.

His wife and the other women, however, were not located because they had already departed for Doha from Indonesia.

Social media is flooded with condolences at the passing of one of Sri Lanka’s top businesspeople from friends and fellow countrymen.

Onesh Subasinghe’s Wealth Statistics

When he passed away, Onesh Subasinghe’s net worth was reportedly over $1 billion.

The 45-year-old was the managing director of Sri Lanka-based agricultural company Opex Holdings.

One of the biggest producers of liquid fertilizer for the domestic and international markets is Opex Holdings.

Onesh Subasinghe’s father, Alfred, established it and passed it on to him as a family business.

Onesh Subasinghe earned a degree in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University in 2003.

After that, he went back to Sri Lanka and started working for his father, Alfred, in the family business.

Opex started out as a seed company but eventually branched out into the fertilizer industry and generated a tidy profit.

To satisfy market demand, they collaborated with Helena Chemicals, a Memphis, Tennessee-based company.

The company soon expanded its operations abroad, supplying goods to Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India.

Onesh Subasinghe’s Cause of Death and Obituary

The cause of Onesh Subasinghe’s death has not yet been disclosed. In Jakarta, Indonesia, police discovered him dead inside of an apartment.

Onesh last spoke with his relatives in Sri Lanka on February 2nd.

Along with his Brazilian wife, their four-year-old daughter, and an additional unnamed woman, he was on holiday in Jakarta.

After several days of being unable to reach him on his mobile phone, his family notified the police.

Subasinghe’s room was locked from the inside, and attempts to reach him by the apartment manager were unsuccessful.

Police were contacted by the property owner, and when they arrived, they forcibly opened the door to discover Mr. Subasinghe’s body inside.

The other woman, Subasinghe’s kid, and his wife are still missing.

They left the apartment room a few days prior with a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, according to surveillance footage.

When last spotted, they were traveling from Indonesia to Doha. They have not yet been notified, though.

Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage, Sri Lanka’s ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, announced Subasinghe’s passing.

Following the news of his passing, Onesh’s friends and the Sri Lankan people have left numerous condolences on social media.

Major Sri Lankan news organizations, both online and in newspapers, report on his passing.

Due to the recent deaths of two additional Sri Lankan businessmen, Subasinghe’s death has raised suspicions.

Dinesh Sachaffter, the owner of First Capital Holdings, and Roshan Wannianayake, a businessman in the garment industry, both passed away in early 2023.

Many have asserted that Subasinghe was murdered as a result of the dubious nature of their death narrative.

The actual cause of the renowned Lankan business titan’s demise has not yet been determined.
