Nathacha Augustin, 38, a 9-year-old girl, and 24-year-old Dylan Lyons (News 13 news reporter) were the victims of the Orlando shooting. On the day of one of the shootings on Hialeah Street, deputies were investigating a different homicide case. A woman, later identified as Nathacha Augustin, was shot and killed shortly before 11 a.m.
An affidavit described the suspect’s behavior before he allegedly began shooting. Deputies discovered two Spectrum News 13 employees on the scene. Dylan Lyons, one of them, died, and another was in critical condition. According to deputies, the suspect shot the television crew before going to a nearby house on Harrington Street and shooting T’yonna Major, a 9-year-old girl who died on the spot.
According to a GoFundMe page, the young girl was outgoing and enjoyed gymnastics. Her mother, who was also shot, is critically ill and being treated in a hospital.
Suspect in Orlando Shooting Arrested
During a press conference, Orange County Sheriff John Mina announced that Keith Melvin Moses had been arrested in connection with the shootings. Mina provided a brief timeline between the shooting on Harrington Street and the suspect’s capture on Thursday. When they arrested Keith, his Glock handgun was still hot, and no more rounds were inside.
All homicides, according to deputies, were committed with the same weapon. Several nearby witnesses identified Moses as the shooter, and video footage showed him at the scene, according to Mina. The 19-year-old allegedly fought with medical personnel after telling officers he was hurt while being held.
The suspect was then taken to the sheriff’s station. Moses allegedly appeared to be sleeping during the questioning, prompting deputies to physically restrain him. When asked if the suspect had a mental health episode, Mina responded that deputies had noticed his eyes were dilated, which suggested the suspect had been drinking.
Moses belongs to a well-known gang. The shooting, however, was said to be unrelated to the gang. The shooter’s motivation for any of the killings is unknown. According to Mina, the only charge against Moses as of this writing is first-degree murder in Augustin’s death. More charges are expected for the murders of Lyons and Major.
Criminal Record of Keith Melvin Moses
Keith Melvin Moses’ criminal history is extensive, including assault, grand theft, and aggravated battery. Keith was charged and arrested in November 2021 for misdemeanor drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. However, those charges were later dropped. When the Orlando shooting suspect was a juvenile, the more serious crimes appeared to have occurred.
However, additional information and records are not publicly available. Although Keith is only charged with Augustin’s murder for the time being, law enforcement expects other charges to be filed at any time.
