What Happened? – Accident Update 2023 by Oscar Piastri

During the much-awaited Belgian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri, an Australian racing driver, and Carlos Sainz, a prominent member of the Ferrari team, were involved in an unpleasant collision. Piastri attempted a risky maneuver on the inside of the corner on the first lap of the race at Turn 1.

Unfortunately, Sainz closed the gap and spoke up quickly, resulting in a collision that hurt both cars. Sainz’s Ferrari had right-side damage, but Piastri’s car sustained catastrophic damage, forcing him to retire early. The extent of the damage prevented him from finishing one more lap on fresh tires, therefore he was forced to withdraw on the second lap.

This led to the installation of yellow flags on the course to alert other drivers. The talented Lando Norris, Piastri’s partner, struggled with the setup of the vehicle and dealt with too much downforce, which hurt his performance. Norris was managing the difficult track conditions on hard tires while running in 14th place at the moment.

Contrarily, Carlos Sainz struggled with a 10% loss in aerodynamic balance, which significantly reduced his speed and caused him to fall to 18th place in the standings. As the race went on, rumors started to circulate that the Scuderia team was thinking about pulling Sainz’s car from the race because of the damage it had incurred in the early incident. Sainz’s participation in the captivating Belgian Grand Prix was not yet officially confirmed, so fans and spectators awaited additional information from the team.
