At the start of the series, get to know Owain Arthur and Prince Durin IV from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Owain Arthur is most remembered for his role as Francis Henshall in One Man, Two Guvnors, which was performed by The National Theatre at the Theater Royal Haymarket.
James Corden was his understudy. His theatre performances have included Nicholas Hytner’s Birdsong, The History Boys (NT), Romeo and Juliet (Royal Shakespeare Company), and The Comedy of Errors (Royal Exchange) (Comedy Theater).
Among the TV shows in which the Irish actor has appeared are A Confession, London Kills, Hard Sun, Hinterland, Babylon, Casualty, Cei Bach, New Tricks, and The Palace. Also, he has acted in other movies, such as White Isle, The Patrol, Mr. Nice, Eldra, Higher Grounds, and the upcoming The One and Only Ivan from Disney.
In an interview at the 2022 Comic-Con, Owain Arthur is reported to have commented on his involvement in the upcoming series, saying,
I was cast as Durin and allowed to play a dwarf, and I immediately thought, “Absolutely! am permitted to use a prosthetic. I get to dress up in all this amazing clothing, wear a wig, and have a beard. And, to be quite honest, I’ve generally been critical of it.
The fourth ruler bearing the name Durin was Durin IV. Due to their obvious likeness, many people believe he is the reincarnation of Durin I, much like the previous three.
He was spotted donning the power ring that had been granted to his forerunner Durin III, and he would probably be in charge during the War of the Last Alliance. He is the monarch of Khazad-dûm, a thriving underground realm.
Their father is Durin III, the ruler of Khazad-dûm and one of the original holders of the Dwarven Rings of Power. In JRR Tolkien’s Second Age, which The Rings of Power is anticipated to portray, these Khazad-dûm Dwarves—or Moria, as it is subsequently known—play a vital role in several pivotal wars, including the destruction of the Dark Lord Sauron at the end of the Second Age.
“My beard is made up of around 16 components, and as it’s being created, you keep thinking, ‘Ah, there he is!’ [laughing] I didn’t notice he was there until the last five cones, just here [on the cheekbones]. You’re heading to work!
