Pat Sharp Leaves Greatest Hits Radio Following Offensive Remark

Pat Sharp

Pat Sharp has resigned from his Greatest Hits Radio program after allegedly making an improper remark to a woman at an event.

According to Deadline, the 61-year-old emcee made a joke about a woman’s breasts while hosting an industry awards presentation.

Sharp stated that he was “sincerely sorry” and that he had apologized directly to the woman.

A spokesperson for Greatest Hits Radio stated that the DJ will be leaving the station “immediately.”

The parent company of the network, Bauer, stated that Sharp’s contract was set to expire at the end of this month anyhow and that the decision not to renew it had already been made before the incident.

Sharp stated in a statement to the newspaper: “Last Friday, I made a joke that was not well received on stage.

“I am deeply sorry for having specifically offended one individual. I apologized at the event to anyone who was offended, and I also apologized directly to the individual.”

According to Deadline, Sharp made a remark about a female attendee in front of about 400 people while hosting the event.

“That was utterly wrong in this day and age,” remarked one of the guests in the room. “That was indecent and revolting… it was the talk of the evening and wrecked the vibe totally.”

The Sun cites the woman’s public LinkedIn page in which she describes the incidents. However, she stated that she had not authorized her name to be published in the media.

Sharp is best known for hosting the children’s game show Fun House during the 1990s. He has also presented radio shows on BBC Radio 1, Capital FM, Smooth Radio, and Heart.

During his tenure at Radio 1, he hosted several episodes of the music program Top of the Pops. Since 2019, Sharp has presented his program on Greatest Hits Radio, which is owned by Bauer.

A Bauer spokeswoman said:

“Due to the launch of new weekend programming, the decision to not renew Pat’s contract, which expires later this month, had already been reached.

“But, now that this issue has been brought to our attention, Pat has agreed not to return to the station with immediate effect.”

In addition to Simon Mayo and Mark Goodier, Greatest Hits Radio recently attracted Ken Bruce from BBC Radio 2.
