The announcement of Paterson Joseph as the new chancellor of Oxford Brookes University has been made. The Peep Show actor and former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company will serve as the organization’s ceremonial leader and representative.
Mr. Joseph described the position as a “new experience” and said he was “very excited” to take it on.
Jon Snow, Shami Chakrabarti, and Dame Katherine Grainger served as previous chancellors.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Alistair Fitt, stated: “Oxford Brookes is pleased to have had several illustrious individuals serve as chancellor.
Through their abilities and knowledge, they have in fact influenced our students, staff, graduates, and partners.
Added him: “Throughout the selection process, Paterson’s commitment to using education as a force for good, both at Oxford Brookes and in society at large, greatly pleased our staff, students, and the nominations committee.
“Paterson has had and continues to have a highly successful career, and he has an engaging story to share about his personal and professional experience.
He will be an effective spokesperson and advocate for Oxford Brookes since he “speaks naturally to the ideals and guiding principles of Oxford Brookes.”
Noughts and Crosses, Grantchester, Green Wing, Vigil, and Doctor Who are among the other productions by Mr. Joseph.
The big screen precursor Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet and directed by Paul King of Paddington, will feature him next year.
Mr. Joseph remarked: “My determination to succeed despite my academic difficulties was unaffected. To inspire those closest to me to do the same and to be someone who could make a meaningful contribution to society as a whole.
“Through my interactions with faculty members and students at Oxford Brookes, I wish to contribute to spreading this positive message.”
At a ceremony that will take place at the university the following year, Mr. Joseph will be sworn in as chancellor.
