The fact that Patricia Noah is Trevor Noah’s mother has made her highly known. Trevor is the anchor of “The Daily Show,” an American satirical news program, as well as a comedian from South Africa.

Patricia wanted a child who could love without conditions because she had never known her parents’ adoration. Under apartheid, when it was forbidden to marry a person of mixed race, she gave birth to Trevor.
In her hometown of Hillbrow, which served as a haven for white people throughout apartheid, Patricia met Robert Noah. She preferred having a child right now over getting married.
Robert, a Swiss-German twice Patricia’s age, initially denied having a child out of fear of being found out, but Patricia’s persistence led to the birth of Trevor.
There was a lot of abuse in her first marriage
Even after apartheid was abolished, the persistent cultural mentality led to her separation from Robert. In 1992, she fell in love with and wed the tall mechanic Ngisaveni Abel Shingange. She understood that she had married a man who was violent at home but appeared gentle in public.
He started striking her with bicycle frames in front of spectators and staff. She had to live in the garden shed because of his violent behavior in order to avoid him. She divorced him in 1996.
Her ex-husband continued to shoot her after the divorce, almost killing her
Patricia remarried Sfiso Khoza in July 2009, but her ex-husband continued to mistreat her. He pursued her and shot her nearly to death out of rage. He twice shot her in the lower torso and skull.
By God’s grace, however, neither bullet struck any vital organs, arteries, veins, or nerves as it passed through her body. Moreover, he made Trevor’s life a threat.
A strong woman who, in spite of challenging circumstances
Patricia has three children: Trevor from her relationship with Robert, Andrew from her union with Abel Shingange, and Isaac Shingange from that union.
She raised Trevor by confining him to a room for the majority of the day, shielding him from prying eyes and the fear of being removed from her and placed in an orphanage.
Patricia had to pose as a stranger in front of her child and go out in public. She also had to protect her other two boys from her abusive husband.
They moved to a backyard shed, where they lived for seven years, while her son Isaac was only 15 months old. In the eyes of her kids, she is a tremendous heroine.
