Bryan Cursius, Patrick’s father, is a therapist with a long history of drug abuse.
He acknowledges in his autobiography “Life Enthusiasm: A Path to Purpose Beyond Recovery” that he had to force his children to grow up in a dysfunctional environment.
Lori, Patrick’s mother, had previously been warned that her son would be acting in an inconceivable manner.
After that, she worried that her son Patrick acquired a gun and called the Allen Police Department weeks before the shooting.
According to the family lawyers, Lori informed the police about Patrick’s recent acquisition of a “AK-type” weapon.

She retorted that this was untrue but expressed concern that he lacked the maturity required for such a weapon.
According to the authorities, her call was “informational” and not prompted by her son’s propensity for violence.
