Patrick Reed’s issue began in college, when he was accused of cheating and larceny.
Shane Ryan, an author, writes about Reed’s misdeed in his book “Slaying the Tiger: A Year Inside the Ropes on the New PGA Tour.”
Shane tells in the book about Reed cheating in a qualifying round at Georgia and stealing from his teammates, which led to his leaving for Augusta State.
The American golfer was a first-year student at the University of Georgia when he hit a ball far into the rough during a competition qualification round.
However, another ball was purportedly closer to the fairway. Reed then prepared to hit the other ball rather than the original, prompting teammates to challenge him.
Patrick initially denied that he was unaware that the ball was different. However, the boys did not believe him.
When asked about the incident, the 32-year-old still adamantly denies cheating. Nonetheless, several people have validated his college cheating story.
Reed is described by former college acquaintances as boisterous, arrogant, unapologetic, and rude. He never seemed to be concerned about the consequences of his conduct.
Furthermore, Reed was embroiled in a theft investigation after things and $400 cash went missing from the locker area.
Reed’s run-ins with colleagues, as well as his two arrests for intoxication, are well-known in the golf world.
The 32-year-old was also investigated for a Hero World Challenge offense in 2019. In a waste area, he allegedly placed sand behind his ball twice.
Reed addressed the problem, claiming that he had not seen the movement and blaming it on the camera and his angle.
For his conduct, he earned harsh condemnation from analysts and gamers.
