Paul O Grady, a comedian, and presenter, died unexpectedly at the age of 67. In a statement, his spouse, Andre Portasio, confirmed his death, saying that O’Grady died “unexpectedly but peacefully.”
“I regret to inform you that Paul passed away suddenly but peacefully yesterday evening.”
Portasio also thanked O’Grady’s supporters and allies on behalf of his late husband:
“He will be sorely missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals, and everyone who appreciated his wit, humour, and compassion.” “I’m sure he’d want me to thank you for all of your affection over the years.”
In 2017, O’Grady and Portasio allegedly married in a low-key affair. At the time of his death, the comedian was on tour as Miss Hannigan in the musical Annie. Paul O Grady recently posted on Instagram that he was “thoroughly enjoying” reprising the role after such a long time, “especially with such a truly amazing and lovely cast.”
In August 2022, Paul O Grady resigned from his position as a Radio 2 presenter, citing dissatisfaction with sharing his Sunday afternoon slot. He was scheduled to appear on Boom Radio on Easter Sunday, however. O’Grady’s most recent television appearance was in a one-off segment of For the Love of Dogs in 2022, alongside Queen Consort Camilla. According to reports, the comic co-created the series with employees from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where he worked as an advocate, in 2012.

According to Mirror UK, the broadcaster contracted the virus in Malta and was unable to work for two months due to the disease’s “wheezing.”
The comic requested that his doctor perform the required procedures. Following an X-ray, he was diagnosed with “recovering COVID,” which made O’Grady fearful that he would never recover, and things worsened when he was forced to miss work due to lingering symptoms. After filming the second series of Sally Lindsay’s The Madame Blanc Mysteries in Malta, the narrator became “really ill”:
“Until last year, when I became infected, I was able to avoid COVID.” I didn’t get it because I was sick. It was completely exhausting. I was taken aback by how bad I was. I needed about two months to recover. “I’d run out of breath.”
Paul O Grady is said to have spent the summer recuperating from health problems at his Kent estate:
“I’d go out to feed the pigs and have to stop twice or three times on the way there, wheezing,” I said. I’d wake up, go downstairs, sit on the sofa for a while, and then fall asleep for four hours.”
The comedian went on to elaborate on his act, claiming that he “felt terrible” about his health:
“I’d get out of bed, have a cup of tea, then go back to bed and sleep all night; it was strange.” I’ve never slept so much in my life. I’d had all the shots, but this was the final straw.”
Grady also remembered feeling “dying” after experiencing the early symptoms:
“We finished one day of filming, and that night I felt a little off, and the next day I felt like I was dying.” I was in excruciating pain and had a terrible wheeze. I stayed in a dorm room for nine days, gently rounding the corner.”
He claimed that after returning home, he felt better, but that he became ill again after a few days:
“I eventually flew back home and felt a lot better, but then I felt shocking and I was back in bed; I just couldn’t shake it off.”
The 67-year-old expressed gratitude that the fight ended after two months, but he revealed that it was not a pleasant experience:
“I’m glad I’m over it now, but there was a time when I wondered, ‘Will this ever go away?'”

The untimely death of Paul O Grady devastated his family, friends, coworkers, business partners, and fans. The specific cause of his death had not been made public at the time of writing.
